The Faculty of Education and Psychology of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (FEP‑UCP) welcomed dozens of high school students and their parents or guardians to the in‑person Open Day for the Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, held on the Universidade Católica campus in Porto.
The initiative, organised with the support of the FEP‑UCP Students’ Association, took place on 16 May 2026 and provided an opportunity for high school students to engage directly with the degree programme in a setting that was accessible, informative and welcoming.
The opening session featured an informal talk led by Raquel Matos, Dean of the Faculty of Education and Psychology, and Catarina Morais, Coordinator of the Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, who presented the structure of the degree, its pedagogical approach and the role of psychologists in contemporary society, while addressing the main questions raised by participants.
According to Raquel Matos, initiatives of this kind play a central role in the Faculty’s relationship with prospective students: “The Open Day is a valuable opportunity not only to present the study plan of the Undergraduate Degree in Psychology, but also to showcase the academic culture of FEP‑UCP, grounded in close engagement, scientific rigour and the holistic development of students.”
Discovering the University and the degree’s pedagogical approach
Throughout the morning, participants had the opportunity to explore different perspectives on studying Psychology through moments of sharing and clarification, gaining further insight into entry requirements, areas of specialisation and the career opportunities associated with the degree.
Catarina Morais, Coordinator of the Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, emphasised the importance of direct contact with students and their families in the decision‑making process: “These moments make it possible to address questions transparently, present the diversity of the field of Psychology and help students understand whether this academic path aligns with their motivations and expectations.”
The programme also included light refreshments in the University gardens, providing a relaxed setting for informal exchanges between high school students, parents or guardians, academic staff and FEP‑UCP students.
Following this social moment, the Open Day was divided into two activities: a question and answer session and a guided tour of the University’s facilities and resources, led by the FEP‑UCP Students’ Association.
The in‑person Open Day for the Undergraduate Degree in Psychology forms part of a broader set of initiatives promoted by the Faculty of Education and Psychology, Universidade Católica Portuguesa aimed at supporting high school students in making informed decisions about their academic pathways, while fostering direct contact with university life.
