Diogo Costa: “The cry of the data: the failure to recognise femicide in Portugal”

Opinion article by Diogo Costa, researcher at the Research Centre for Human Development (CEDH) of the Faculty of Education and Psychology of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa.

“Women accounted for 83% of homicide victims killed by intimate partners and 75% of homicide victims killed by domestic aggressors between 2014 and 2022.

Deaths resulting from domestic violence in Portugal are not legally treated as extreme forms of gender-based violence. But they should be.”
