The University Psychology Clinic (CUP) of the Faculty of Education and Psychology at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (FEP-UCP) has just expanded its services with a new facility aimed at the elderly population. This new service, now available to the public, focuses on psychological assessment and intervention for older adults and elderly individuals, addressing emerging needs within this segment of the population.

The new area of intervention concentrates on supporting conditions such as depression, anxiety disorders, cognitive changes, and behavioural symptoms associated with dementia or other disorders commonly linked to the ageing process.

According to Lurdes Veríssimo, coordinator of the CUP, the main goal of this new facility is “to address the psychological intervention needs of older people”, a population that remains undervalued in mental health services despite facing significant emotional and cognitive challenges.

The team responsible for this new service has specialised training in the field of ageing psychology. António Fonseca, a professor at FEP-UCP and a psychologist with recognised clinical and academic expertise in this area, will be leading the technical aspect of the service.

Those interested, or their family members, may book a consultation through the form available on the clinic’s website, under the “Request Consultation – Adult Consultation” section.

With this new specialised service, the University Psychology Clinic reaffirms its commitment to promoting mental health throughout the entire life cycle, contributing to healthier, more dignified, and better-supported ageing.
