The University Psychology Clinic (CUP) of the Faculty of Education and Psychology at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (FEP‑UCP) deeply regrets the loss of João Carlos Gomes‑Pedro: physician, paediatrician, scientist and pedagogue. For so many, he was a reference in clinical practice, in the supervision and training of hundreds of professionals in health, education and social intervention, as well as in scientific research.
A legacy centred on the Child
In 2010, together with Berry Brazelton, Gomes‑Pedro founded the Brazelton | Gomes‑Pedro Foundation for Baby and Family Sciences (FBGP), a testament to his way of seeing, feeling and acting, always with the Child at the centre of intervention, scientific thinking and clinical practice.
The University Psychology Clinic, which has the privilege of being a partner of the FBGP, shares in the community’s grief, recognising the importance of his contribution to understanding infant development and to the training of professionals who work daily with babies, children and families.
The CUP and FEP‑UCP extend their heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of João Carlos Gomes‑Pedro, expressing deep admiration for his life’s work and for the mark he leaves on science, clinical practice and education.
