The Faculty of Education and Psychology of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (FEP-UCP) welcomed dozens of high school students and their parents or guardians for an Open Day dedicated to the undergraduate degree in Psychology.
The event, held with the support of the FEP-UCP Students’ Union, took place on the morning of 17 May 2025 at the Universidade Católica’s Porto campus. It was a dynamic, informative, and welcoming moment that showcased the course, its distinctive features, and the faculty’s academic environment.
In an informal discussion format, Raquel Matos, Dean of FEP-UCP, and Alexandra Carneiro, coordinator of the degree programme, presented the course and answered questions about the role of psychologists in society. Also taking part in the session were the President of the FEP-UCP Students’ Union, Inês Reis, alumna Ana Luísa Sousa, and first-year student Sara Patel.
Prospective students had the opportunity to gain insights into the Psychology degree from different perspectives — those currently studying the course, as well as a graduate already active in the job market. Participants also received clarification regarding the requirements for practising the profession in Portugal and were able to have all their questions answered.
This was followed by a coffee break in the UCP gardens, providing a relaxed setting for high school students, FEP-UCP students, parents and guardians, and faculty members to exchange views informally.
Discovering the University and exploring the academic offer
The second part of the morning included two separate sessions: a Q&A session for parents and guardians, focusing on the curriculum, career opportunities, and the faculty’s educational approach; and a session for students, organised by the Students’ Union, allowing participants to explore the University’s facilities and resources.
As Alexandra Carneiro explained, “This was a very important opportunity to clarify doubts, learn more about the academic offer, and experience the FEP-UCP spirit. We thank all participants for taking the time to get to know us better.”
Following the in-person Open Day, the Faculty of Education and Psychology will host another event aimed at high school students: the Teen Academy. Under the theme “Flight Destination: Psychology”, the Teen Academy will take place from 1 to 3 July 2025, offering students the chance to discover the breadth of the field of psychology and its diverse areas of practice.
