A Study on the Interactions Among Positive Psychlogical Capital (PsyCap), Job Crafting, and Creativity: The United Kingdom Example

09-04-2025 | 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM | Porto Room

Description:

With the shift towards positive psychology, the role of creativity in productivity and well-being at work has become more emphasised in occupational psychology. It has therefore become important to understand the factors that influence creativity in today's workplace. Creativity is the ability to generate ideas that are both original and adaptable. In the workplace, it refers to the extent to which employees can overcome challenges and achieve work-related goals by developing and implementing innovative and useful ideas.

Relevant determinants include Psychological Capital (PsyCap) - the positive level of psychological development of an individual - and Job Crafting (JC), i.e. the demands and work resources for the achievement of personal and organisational goals. However, how these constructs interact to influence creativity (C) at work remains unclear. We present work that examines how psychological capital mediates the relationship between job crafting and creativity.

The findings extend the theory of the determinants of creativity in the workplace. They also raise practitioners' awareness of the impact of psychological experiences in the workplace on job crafting, employee initiative, and workplace relationships. New ways of promoting creativity in practice are suggested.

This research explores the interactions between PsyCap, JC and creativity. Whilst previous research has focused on how positive psychological capital enhances work performance and creativity, future research can examine how these factors affect working structures in the UK creative industries.
