Carolina Carvalho Ferreira, a student in the Bachelor's degree in Psychology at the Faculty of Education and Psychology (FEP) of the Catholic University in Porto, was one of the students selected by Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP) to receive an Erasmus mobility scholarship (BIP - Blended Intensive Programme) and represent UCP at the 4th edition of the Summer School "European Humanism in the Making" of the Federation of European Catholic Universities (FUCE).

"A feeling of pure pride and accomplishment."

Out of 48 applications nationwide and among the 11 students from the 2nd and 3rd years of the Psychology degree, the selected candidate stood out among the others for her Curriculum Vitae and Motivation Letter. Being one of the chosen ones for Carolina Ferreira "was a feeling of pure pride and accomplishment."

The Europe of the Future

Aiming to address the Pope’s question "What happened to the humanist Europe, defender of human rights, democracy, and freedom?", FUCE has developed an interdisciplinary study program entitled "European Humanism in the Making". The central focus of this program is to identify the roots and routes of the European project and to investigate how to value them in the context of current globalization. Consequently, this involves studying historical contexts, cultural canon, scientific approach, institution building, and citizenship from a broader comparative and international perspective. The Psychology degree student states that this study program is an "excellent opportunity to develop skills that are essential for human evolution and for personal and professional growth." For Patrícia Oliveira-Silva, member of the Board for Internationalization, Research, and Social Responsibility of FEP, and coordinator of the Human Neurobehavioral Laboratory (HNL), this initiative allows, thus, "to strengthen our internationalization culture." The Summer School will take place in Palermo (Italy), at the facilities of LUMSA - Libera Università Maria Santissima Assunta, from July 3rd to 7th, 2023.
