Monday, April 22, 2024 - 17:30

Alexandra Carneiro, a Professor at the Faculty of Education and Psychology of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (FEP-UCP), was in Norway from 14 to 18 April as part of her international mobility to discuss the results of the impact of the activities carried out under the project "Participo! Women's civic and political participation" with the European Centre for Women and Technology (ECWT).

The project, which ended in 2020, was promoted by the Union of Parishes of Aldoar, Foz do Douro and Nevogilde, with the aim of increasing the participation of girls and women in the political and/or social life of these parishes in the city of Porto. The initiative was funded by the EEA Grants Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 - Reconciliation and Gender Equality Programme.

In addition to the FEP Professor, Ana Furtado from Aldoar, Foz do Douro and Nevogilde Parish Council, Sofia Mexia Alves from the Aga Khan Foundation Portugal, Joana Morais e Castro from the Social Economy Transversal Area of the Universidade Católica in Porto and Inês Carvalho from the Inducar Network were also present in Oslo to meet with the ECWT.

Identifying barriers and facilitators to women's civic and/or political participatio

The Universidade Católica in Porto, as a partner organisation, contributed to specific project activities such as: collecting life stories from civically and/or politically active women in the identified communities; identifying barriers and facilitators to women's civic and/or political participation; and evaluating the impact of the activities carried out in the community.

During the visit to Oslo, Alexandra Carneiro discussed with ECWT the results of the project and the activities carried out, as well as the results of the impact study. The visit also aimed to get to know ECWT's activities in Norway and to explore possibilities for further cooperation.

"During this visit, I explained in more detail how the collection of narratives from women identified by the community as examples of civic and/or political participation was carried out (the type of interview script used, the objectives and the experiences of the narrators). I presented the maps of barriers and facilitators to women's civic and/or political participation and the results of the impact study of the project's activities," said Alexandra Carneiro, who is also a researcher at the Research Centre for Human Development (CEDH), a Research & Development Unit of the FEP-UCP.

The visit is expected to promote greater visibility of the work carried out, its results and impact, as well as to explore possibilities for continuing the partnership and new project ideas.
