Portuguese Journal of Educational Research: new issue takes stock of the last 50 years of education in democracy

Issue 28 of the Portuguese Journal of Educational Research is dedicated to the theme "Education, Public Space, Democracy and Justice (in the 50 years since 25 April)".

In this issue, which commemorates the 50th anniversary of 25 April, the journal proposes some assessments of the progress made over the last five decades in the areas of access to and massification of education, early childhood education, school management, regulation and autonomy, and intercultural education.

Democracy owes a lot to education and education owes a lot to democratic policies, in a spiral movement of continuous interaction, with clear gains in human and social development, equity and social justice," says Joaquim Azevedo, faculty at the FEP and director of the journal.

This issue also includes research on curricular equity and self-regulation of learning.

“After half a century, major new challenges are emerging in society and in schools, mainly as a result of rapid socio-cultural and technological changes. It's always good to remember that public education policies depend on our choices, they don't fall from the sky. Everything remains open, in our minds and in our hands. And it's great to have a way to go," he adds.

Issue 28 of the journal contains eight peer-reviewed academic articles on the following topics:
