On 23 May, approximately 50 high school students participated in the Psychology Degree Open Day at the Faculty of Education and Psychology of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (FEP-UCP).
On this Open Day, high school students had the opportunity to gain further insight into the FEP-UCP's Psychology Degree through presentations by Raquel Matos, the FEP's Director, and Alexandra Carneiro, the coordinator of the FEP's Psychology Degree. The structure of the course was outlined, and various issues related to this cycle of studies were addressed.
Additionally, the participants heard testimonies from students currently enrolled in the degree programme, as well as the perspective of a master's student at the FEP and an alumnus who graduated from the FEP.
An enlightening talk about the psychology degree and the path and role of the psychologist
Following a presentation of the degree and an account of the experiences of current and former students, an informal discussion was held with high school students and their parents.
As Alexandra Carneiro explains, ‘It was a very relevant moment for the high school students who came to our Open Day. We had the opportunity to talk about what the FEP offers and to clarify some of the concepts related to the various areas of intervention of the psychologist."
At the end, the participants were invited to an open-air coffee break, during which they were able to engage in informal discussion with the coordinator of the degree programme and students from the FEP Students' Association, who were also present at the event.
After this first welcome for high school students, the Faculty of Education and Psychology's Teen Academy, will be held from 2 to 5 July. Under the motto 3…2…1 Psicologia em Ação, the four-day event will showcase the role of psychologists today.
