St. Peter's International School students visit the Faculty of Education and Psychology

The Faculty of Education and Psychology of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (FEP-UCP) enthusiastically welcomed a group of students and teachers from St. Peter's International School, who came to learn about the Degree in Psychology. The visit provided the students and teachers from Setúbal with a comprehensive and inspiring overview of the course and some of the faculty’s facilities.

The 12 secondary school students from the Languages and Humanities program began their visit with a detailed presentation of the Psychology degree, where they were able to clear up any doubts and learn about the benefits of the degree.

They then visited the University Psychology Clinic (CUP), guided by Francisca Pereira, who is completing her professional internship with the Portuguese Psychologists Association at the Clinic. Here, the students learned about the clinic’s structure and the opportunities it offers to get closer to professional practice.

The tour culminated in the Human Neurobehavioural Laboratory (HNL), where researcher Pedro Ribeiro presented the modern facilities of the neuroscience laboratory and the research projects under development.

An inspiring experience

Marisa Tavares, one of the faculty members who accompanied the group, described the experience as truly inspiring for the students: "From the first moment, we felt a comfortable and professional atmosphere. The structure of the course impresses with its combination of academic rigour and applied practice, allowing students to develop a holistic understanding of human behaviour. The modern facilities and resources provided by the University contribute to a dynamic and enriching learning experience.”

One of the students, Artur Monteiro, highlighted the importance of the Human Neurobehavioural Laboratory and the University Psychology Clinic for the practical training of future psychologists: "The Psychology degree at the Universidade Católica has a very good educational base and contains two features that seem to make its teaching stand out. The neuroscience laboratory applied to psychology is a great differentiator, especially for those who are interested in this specialisation at the Master's level and can try it out during their studies. On the other hand, if the specialisation is more clinical, the CUP allows the students to have much more practical experience, being able to assist and help with cases".

The visit by the St. Peter's International School students took place on 24 October 2024. Initiatives such as this reinforce the FEP-UCP's commitment to building bridges with secondary education and promoting the dissemination of its training offer to the public.

The Faculty of Education and Psychology is grateful for the visit from St. Peter's International School and hopes to continue to inspire future students.
