The University Psychology Clinic (CUP) of Católica Porto invites children between 8 and 11 years old, attending 3rd, 4th and 5th grade, to participate in the 2nd edition of this innovative programme.
The programme, which starts in November, aims to promote socio-emotional skills, which are essential for psychological well-being and success in life.
Through a series of dynamic and fun activities, 'Sou Capaz!' aims to help children develop skills such as self-awareness, self-control, assertiveness, self-esteem, responsible decision-making and social awareness.
According to Lurdes Veríssimo, co-author of the programme and coordinator of CUP, "these skills are important predictors of mental health and are essential for children's emotional and social well-being. By developing these skills, children will be better prepared to face life's challenges and build healthy relationships.”
A mother whose son took part in the first edition of the programme, which started in April this year, shared her experience: “A fun programme that was undoubtedly one of the highlights of the weekend for both the son and the parents. It was wonderful to see the big smile and satisfaction our son had when talking about the activities. We could see an evolution in the ease with which he shared his feelings, which is a starting point for him to better manage his emotions.”
Sessions start in November and take place on Saturday mornings
“Sou Capaz!” costs €105 and consists of seven sessions held on Saturday mornings from 10.00 to 11.30 am at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Porto.
The sessions will take place on 9 and 23 November 2024, 7 and 14 December 2024, 11 and 25 January 2025 and 8 February 2025.
The programme will work with a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 12 participants. Applications are now open and will close on 31 October.
Isabel Castro, a psychotherapist from CUP, will lead the 2nd edition of the programme.
