Maria Carmo de Azevedo Carvalho is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Education and Psychology of Católica Porto, an Integrated Member of the CEDH and Vice-President of the International Center for Ethnobotanical Education Research and Service (ICEERS.org). She researches on addictive behaviors, drug policy, nightlife recreational environments, and psychedelic science. In 2008 she started her involvement in a substance use psychological crisis intervention project - Kosmicare - at the Boom Festival, a community outreach activity that she has maintained to the present.
She was the main researcher of a project on sexism, drug use and nightlife recreational environments funded by H2020 in Portugal which aimed to raise awareness about these issues among key actors of the nightlife economy and other governance agents. She is the main researcher of a European project with similar objectives funded by EU_REC. She is a member of a CPBS coordinated research team investigating the implications of regulating adult cannabis use.
